As soon as you reach Act 2 and Act 3 in Slay the Spire 2, there’s a chance to encounter events in Unknown or ? rooms. One of these is the Crystal Sphere event. In this event, you’re forced to either pay gold or incur a debt in exchange for divinations. If you’re new to this event, you may wonder which option is best.
Find out the right answer for you in this Slay the Spire 2 Crystal Sphere event.
What’s the best option in the Crystal Sphere event in Slay the Spire 2?
In the Crystal Sphere event in Slay the Spire 2, there’s no objectively “best” choice. It all depends on how much gold you have and how willing you are to take risks. Either way, you’ll lose gold, but there are smart ways to manage it.
The Crystal Sphere event forces you to choose between Uncover Future and Payment plan.

- Uncover Future: Pay 76 gold. Divine 3 times.
- Payment plan: Gain a Debt. Divine 6 times.
In this event, you cannot simply walk away. You must either spend 76 gold or take on debt. If 76 gold feels like too much, or if you don’t have enough to pay it, you can choose the Payment Plan option.
Choosing the latter gives you an unplayable curse card. At the end of your turn, you will lose 10 gold for each copy in your hand. If you don’t have cards that can discard or exhaust it, you could lose at least 10–20 gold per combat.
The first option here is the less riskier one. You can just pay 76 gold. No need to deal with an unplayable card, and you won’t lose any gold again. You’ll get 3 divinations here.
On the flip side, you can choose debt. Note that this is a high-risk, high-reward option. If there’s a merchant nearby, you can use the Card Removal service to get rid of it. This will cost 75 gold, the same amount required for the first option. Feel free to pick this though if you’re in Act 3 and no longer need gold.
Picking debt gives you 6 divinations.
What is Divination in Slay the Spire 2?
After making your choice, you’ll have to play a divination mini-game. It’s similar to a mining game: choose a small or large tile to reveal what’s underneath. However, you must fully uncover each item to claim it.
You can receive relics, potions and cards here. If you’re unlucky, you may get Curse cards.
First, choose between Big Divination and Small Divination. Both options have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Big divinations allow you to reveal multiple items at once, including curse cards. By choosing this, you might accidentally uncover a curse card. On the other hand, small divinations reveal only a portion of an item, letting you avoid curses entirely. Still, it can be worthwhile to take the risk.
For small divination, you can use it to completely reveal an item without accidentally revealing a curse.

Once you’ve used all your divinations, you’ll be able to claim your reward or choose to skip it.
