How to Start and Complete The Blood of Dawnwalker Buried Past Side Quest

Head to Maragir and talk to the merchant to start the quest.

Completing all quest objectives, including the optional ones, consumes 16 time units.

Should You Complete Volk’s Optional Objectives?

Talk to the merchant and buy the beer to learn about Pieter’s secret spot. Head to the marked location and investigate the tree and the snares.

As you enter the shed, you will trigger a cutscene featuring Volk, Pieter’s friend. Tell him that you’re Pieter’s son and join him for a drink. The first part of The Blood of Dawnwalker Buried Past side quest requires you to visit Volk on three different days and listen to his stories about Coen’s father. During each visit, Volk gives you some optional tasks. Completing these optional objectives unlocks an alternative quest ending. Keep in mind that each optional objective consumes one time unit.

Day 1 Optional Objectives	Chop some wood for Volk. Track down the wolves.
Day 2 Optional Objectives	Gather feverfew by the riverbank. Prepare the ointment.
Day 3 Optional Objectives	Board up the bedroom window. Search for Volk’s knife.

All these optional objectives are easy to complete using Focus Mode. If you’re having troubles finding Volk’s knife, search the roof.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Buried Past Ending Choices

After sparring with Volk and obtaining the Artery Strike manual, Volk will ask you to find your father’s treasure.

If you agree, head to the marked location. Pick up the shovel and look around for a circle of stones, marking the dig location. You will find Pieter’s Garb, a legendary armor, inside the chest.

If you refuse, Volk asks you to come back the next day. Upon your return, you find several soldiers at Volk’s house. Deal with them and decide what to do with Volk:

• Fight Volk. Fight and kill Volk.
• Spare Volk. Let him live, but you will find him dead when you return the next day.

After finding the treasure and looting Pieter’s armor, The Blood of Dawnwalker Buried Past quest continues with a new objective: to ask about Pieter at the Maragir monastery. Head to the marked location and talk to the monk.

Return to Volk, tell him what you found out, and return the next day. The next part of the quest depends on whether you’ve completed Volk’s optional tasks:

• Completed Volk’s tasks. You will find dead soldiers at Volk’s house and a letter explaining what happened. You receive Volk’s Sword as a reward.
• Didn’t complete Volk’s tasks. You will find soldiers waiting for you at Volk’s house. If you kill Volk, you can take his sword. If you spare him, you will find him dead the next time you return to his house. He doesn’t have any loot on him.

So, the best way to deal with Volk is to kill him and collect his epic greatsword.
