Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- The Pursuit of Perfection Side Quest

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Game Guides

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- The Pursuit of Perfection side quest is in the Gongaga Region during Chapter 9. The quest is done with Barret. While this quest is short and sweet, finding the material for the weaponsmith’s ultimate weapon can prove challenging. However, the reward, the Fafnir Rifle, is well worth the challenge. This guide covers the main points of the quest, how to find the draconite ore, defeat fiends, and which dialogue options to choose.

Beginning the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- The Pursuit of Perfection Side Quest

To begin the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- The Pursuit of Perfection side quest, talk to the weaponsmith inside the wooden shop. He’ll introduce himself as Izo and he’s fascinated by Barret’s mechanical gun grafted to his right arm. Izo reveals that he has been trying to create the ultimate weapon and Barret’s arm inspires him. He asks if they will help gather the materials for him. Cloud has three dialogue options to choose from:

  • “You . . . live here?”
  • “So, about Barret’s arm . . .”
  • “Leave it to us.”

Select “Leave it to us” to continue the quest. Izo will give you the key to his storage shed which has a map in it that will tell you where to find the materials.

Finding the Draconite Ore

The nearby storage shed is marked on your map. Once you find it, head inside and search one of the boxes on a shelf to the right. There, you will find a map and directions appear on the screen telling you how to use it. Press the left arrow to pull out the map and hold L1 to take a closer look.

Using this, follow its directions until you find the draconite deposits by the cliff west of the shed. The deposits will be next to a large tree. Before you can gather any, flying fiends called Daggerwings attack you and your party. There are five of them against Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Aerith, Yuffie, and Red XIII. Using Barret’s gun and long-range capabilities is best for bringing down the fiends. Utilizing Overcharge and Barret’s other abilities like Assess, Maximum Fury, Chakra, and Charged Uppercut will help bring them down quickly. Rewards for defeating the fiends include 70 EXP and 2 AP, 174 gil, and a beast pelt per Daggerwing defeated.

Collecting the Draconite Ore

Once you’ve defeated all five Daggerwings, collect eight draconite ore. They’re pretty easy to spot since they’re dark blue and stand out in the environment. The first two are right at the bottom of the cliff. Next, you’ll want to use the rope to the left of the draconite to climb to the top of the cliff. There are two more draconites to the right, by the small drop-off. Continue following the path to find more ore scattered along the way.

Rewards for the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- The Pursuit of Perfection Side Quest

Report back to Izo once you’ve collected all eight draconite ore. He’ll ask if you found everything. You have three dialogue options.

  • “Inquire about the materials.”
  • “Don’t hand over anything.”
  • “Hand over what you have.”

Select “Hand over what you have” to give Izo the eight draconite ore. He’ll ask you to stay as he begins to craft his ultimate weapon, a handgun very similar to Barret’s called the Fafnir Rifle. He’ll encourage Barret to accept the gun as a gift.

You’ll be rewarded for completing the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth The Pursuit of Perfection side quest with the Fafnir Rifle, 10 Party EXP, 1,000 Cloud EXP, and your relationship with Barret deepens.
