The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Missing: Mr. Birdie side quest can be found in the Corel Region during Chapter 9. This is a quest done with Barret.
Beginning the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- Missing: Mr. Birdie Side Quest
Talk to a little girl in the settlement to begin the quest. At first, she declines to talk to Barret, so Barret tries convincing her to talk to Cloud. He says, “Why don’t you talk to this old fella instead?” and Cloud has three dialogue options to respond with:
- “Someone’s a softie.”
- “For the right price.”
- “‘Old fella’?”
Selecting the last one leads to friendly jokes between the two friends before Cloud asks the little girl what’s wrong. The kids explain that Mr. Birdie, a friend of theirs, has run away. Barret realizes they’re talking about Cloud Jr, a small yellow bird they ran into already. Someone saw the bird heading to the desert so Cloud and Barret decide to go after it.
One of the kids gives you a map with the location of birdhouses where you can set traps.
Obtain the Transmuter Chip
Your next objective is to obtain the Transmuter Chip to craft the traps. You must do Excavation Intel 2 in order to get the chip but you have to do Expedition Instel 1-4 in the Corel Region first before this one becomes available.
Use the Chocobos in the deserted village to find the parts you need. They can sense hidden items and, when they get close enough, a question mark appears over their head and a prompt on the side of the screen says “Your Chocobo senses something nearby”. The ground will glow where the item is. Approach the spot so the Chocobo can dig it up.
There are three spots to dig at and you need to find all three to get the Transmuter Chips that you need. Once you’ve completed Excavation Intel 2, you’ll be rewarded with Data Points and 5 Party EXP. Now, you can craft a bird trap with three ingredients: mist seeds, marjoram, and sage. These three items are very common and easy to find.
Old Republic Birdhouses
Next, go to the Old Republic Birdhouse locations. Approach the first birdhouse and hit the triangle button. Select “Yes” to set the bait for Cloud Jr. While you wait, rig the other two traps in the area, marked on your map with a marker. You’ll follow the same sets. There are three traps in total.
Go back and check the first trap once you’re done. You’ll find fiends called Cyclone Drakes that have been lured in by the trap and you’ll have to fight them. Defeating them gives you EXP and AP, gil, and items like beast talons. You can use standard attacks, abilities, or spells to defeat them.
Since the first trap is messed up, move on and check the second one. It has also attracted smaller fiends called Cactrots. They’re easy to defeat but they’ve also destroyed the trap, so you’ll have to move on to the third and last trap.
Cloud Jr. is by the birdhouse at the last trap when a giant monster called the Gigant Bomb appears, scaring the bird and attacking your party. It’s a formidable foe, but with your party members and combined abilities, it can be defeated. Once defeated, Cloud Jr. will land on Barret’s head before heading home.
Rewards for the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth- Missing: Mr. Birdie Side Quest
Report back to the children, where Cloud Jr. has safely returned. One of the kids gives you a level boost materia as a thank you. You’ll be rewarded for completing the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Missing: Mr. Birdie side quest with 10 EXP for your party, 1,100 EXP for Cloud, and your relationship with Barret deepens.
