How to Start and Complete the Octopath Traveler 0 Books Overdue Side Quest – Mercedes the Librarian
The Books Overdue side quest becomes available after you complete the Bestower of Flame Chapter 2 main story quest. Make your way to Atlasdam in the Flatlands Region and enter the library building.
Talk to the NPC behind the counter, Mercedes the Librarian, to start the quest. Mercedes informs you that three books are missing and requests that you return them to the library. Don’t bother checking the map for quest markers, as the Octopath Traveler 0 Books Overdue side story is not tracked on the map.
Where to Find the Three Overdue Books
The three missing books are:
- Healing Hot Springs.
- The King and the Golden Dust.
- Adrift in the Vast River.
Who might have borrowed these books? The clues are hidden in the book titles. Each title contains a reference to an Octopath Traveler 0 location where you will find the NPC who borrowed the book.
Healing Hot Springs Book Location
The clue in this book title leads you to Berecain in the Highlands Region. Enter the town and go to the save point location. To the left, you will see an NPC. Entreat the Hot Springs Enthusiast and receive the Healing Hot Springs book.
The King and the Golden Dust Book Location
To get this book, you must travel to Sufrataljah in the Sunlands Region. Take the stairs on the right side of the tavern and you will encounter the Kindly Millionaire. Use the Purchase action to get The King and the Golden Dust book.
Adrift in the Vast River Book Location
To find the last book, make your way to Donescu in the Riverlands Region. Head down the stairs on the right side of the tavern and enter the house. Interact with the NPC and learn that they lost the book somewhere in Misty Falls.
To reach Misty Falls, leave Donescu and head east. Enter the cave and check the minimap for the objective marker that leads you to the Adrift in the Vast River book location.
Once you have all three books, return to Mercedes to complete the Octopath Traveler 0 Books Overdue side quest and receive 16000 Leaves for your trouble.
