What are the best Biomods in Subnautica 2?

Active Biomods are ones that you need to activate. These biomods can either help you to dodge or avoid enemies, or locate important resources.

Subnautica 2 biomods tier list

Best Subnautica 2 Active Biomods

S-tierDash: Dash in any direction to avoid predators or hazards.
Electric Discharge: Emit an 800 volt electric shock to deter medium and large predators.
A-tierSonic Echo: Emit a sonar pulse to highlight nearby resources.
B-tier Pathfinder: Release glowing yellow particles you can follow to find your way.
Chum Cloud: Release a cloud of delicious bait to distract predators.

Dash is unlocked early in the game and is arguably the best active Biomod available. It allows players to dash forward, making it useful for reaching locations faster or dodging enemy attacks.

Sonic Echo, Pathfinder, and Chum Cloud all fall short compared to Dash. Sonic Echo has a relatively small range, which limits its usefulness. Pathfinder is also less valuable since it’s not particularly easy to get lost in Subnautica 2, especially with signals and beacons available. As for Chum Cloud, it is generally less effective than Electric Discharge in most situations.

Best Subnautica 2 Passive Biomods

S-tierOxygen Control: Slows oxygen consumption when not moving
Water Retention: Gain more water from all sources.
Slow Metabolism: Your microbiome becomes more efficient, making food loss slower.
Camouflage: Become invisible to predators while not moving.
A-tierBioluminescence: Makes the player glow in the dark.
Homing Sense: Detect nearby bases with electrical power.
Dermal Garden: Slowly grow nutritious algae on your skin.
Water Secretion: Slowly fills a water packet by filtering fresh water from the sea.
B-tier Sea Skimmer: Swim faster when close to underwater surfaces or the seafloor

Oxygen Control, Water Retention, Slow Metabolism, and Camouflage are the best passive biomods in Subnautica 2, and these are actually my favorites. Oxygen Control reduces the amount of oxygen you lose when not moving, perfect when you’re just scouting the area or farming. Water Retention and Slow Metabolism decrease the need to consume food and water. Meanwhile, Camouflage makes you invisible as long as you’re not moving. This allows you to stay unseen while a predator is moving near you.

For the A-tiers, Bioluminescence is great, but since your Wakemaker has a flashlight feature, you basically don’t need it that much, especially in the mid-to-late game. Homing Sense allows you to detect bases and areas that might have something useful. Dermal Garden and Water Secretion, on the other hand, allow you to get food passively.

Sea Skimmer is what we think is the weakest biomod in Subnautica 2. While it is very useful in the early game, Sea Skimmer loses its value in the late game when Tadpoles exist.
