If you already have a Tadpole in Subnautica 2, you’ll need a material called Salt. Among its many uses, Salt is a key ingredient for crafting Power Cells, which are required to power your Tadpole.
So, if you’re new to Subnautica 2 and looking for Salt, this guide will help you find it.
Best locations to farm Salt in Subnautica 2
Here are the best spots where you can get Salt in the game.
Salt location #1 (Early game)
In Subnautica 2, you’ll generally find Salt in hotter biomes and around the Alien Ruins base. So, if you’ve just started, you can expect farming Salt to be a lot harder, since reaching these locations requires Heat Adaptation and a Tadpole. Fortunately, there is a quick way to get Salt without going to these areas.

From the Lifepod, travel 230 meters southeast until you reach this entrance. Alternatively, if you have the Chap Black Box signal, simply follow it.

Enter this cave and look for small pieces of Salt. There aren’t as many Salt deposits here as in other areas, but it’s still a good place to start.
Salt location #2
For this location, you’ll need the Heat Tolerance adaptation, as you’ll have to pass through the Graveyard or another hot biome. It is located approximately 400–600 meters east of the Lifepod. You’ll know you’ve arrived when the water starts turning orange. The temperature here exceeds 60°C, so you’ll take damage if you remain in the area for too long.

You’ll find small pieces of Salt fairly scattered across the area. You can get around 30 pieces from here.
Salt location #3
The most reliable source of Salt is the Alien Ruins base. Both small and large Salt nodes can be found on the seafloor. To harvest the larger deposits, you’ll need a Sonic Resonator.

Once you spot the giant tower, explore the area and swim about 150 meters deeper. You’ll find large Salt nodes scattered throughout several locations.
