The Subnautica 2 Tadpole is a submarine that allows you to explore the depths. To obtain this vehicle, you must unlock the blueprint and craft it.
Let’s see what you must do to unlock your first submarine and its upgrades!
How to Craft and Upgrade the Subnautica 2 Tadpole
To craft the tadpole submarine, you need to unlock its blueprint by finding and scanning three tadpole fragments. Then, you can equip it with various upgrades to boost its capabilities.
How to Find the Tadpole Fragments and Build the Submarine
There are at least nine available fragments, but these ones are the easiest to find.
Fragment 1

To find the first fragment, head south of the Lifepod. Pass through the circular rock formation and dive about 80 meters to find it.
Fragment 2

To find the second fragment, head northeast of the Lifepod. Keep going until you reach the wreck. You can enter the wreck through an opening under it. The fragment is inside the wreck.
Fragment 3

To find the third fragment, head northwest of the wreck where you found the second fragment.
Once you’ve found the three fragments, build the Subnautica 2 Tadpole prerequisites:
- Moonpool – Titanium x 5.
- Tadpole Dock – Titanium Ingot x 2, Copper Wire x 1, Silver Ingot x 1.
- Vehicle Fabricator – Titanium Ingot x 2, Glass x 2, Copper Ingot x 1.
All these blueprints are automatically unlocked. Interact with the Vehicle Fabricator to craft the tadpole submarine. The required materials are:
- Titanium Ingot x 2.
- Power Cell x 1.
- System Chip x 1.
- Glass x 1.
How to Upgrade the Subnautica 2 Tadpole
The base vehicle supports upgrades that increase its speed, reduce power usage and noise, and allow it to dive deeper. To unlock these upgrades, you need to find and scan their data cards.
Scout Ray Chassis

Upgrade: Increased speed, acceleration, and turn rate.
Go east of the Lifepod and pass the large coral formation. Dive deeper and you’ll reach the Tadpole Pens. Enter and find the Scout Ray Chassis inside.
Engine Efficiency

Upgrade: Decreased power usage by 20%. Stacks four times.
Go east of the Tadpole Pens and pass the tower to arrive at the Research Outpost. Enter the base and find the Engine Efficiency upgrade.
Strike Armor

Upgrade: Reduced damage from collisions and attacks.
Go southwest of the Research Outpost to find the Strike Armor upgrade.
Depth Module Mk.1 and Haul Chassis Fragment 1

Upgrade: Dive distance increased to 450 meters.
Go south of the Research Outpost and dive to about 250 meters. Go through the opening in the rock to find a tadpole wreck and the Depth Module Mk.1 upgrade next to it. Scan the wreck to get the first Haul Chassis fragment.
Haul Chassis Fragments 1 and 2

Upgrade: Increased storage and passenger seats.
Go southeast of the Research Outpost and you will discover a wreck. Scan it to get the second fragment. Go northeast of the wreck to find the third fragment.
Cavitation Muffler

Upgrade: Noise reduction.
Go east of the Research Outpost to find the Cavitation Muffler.
Photovoltaic Charger

Upgrade: Charges power in shallow water during the day.
Go east of the Research Outpost and then head south. Enter the wreck, go right, and explore the rooms to find the Photovoltaic Charger upgrade.
