The Black Myth Wukong Crane Immortal is one of the characters whose portrait is a requirement for 100% Journal Completion. Here is a walkthrough of the quest that unlocks the portrait and the secret Misfit with Merit achievement.
Do Not Complete Chapter 4 Before Unlocking the Black Myth Wukong Crane Immortal Portrait
To unlock the character entry for the Crane Immortal, you need to complete the secret Purple Talismans quest in Chapter 4. If Sun Wukong kills the final Chapter 4 boss, he cannot complete the quest anymore. So, do not defeat the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master because you won’t have access to the Purple Altars anymore.
If you’ve missed it in the first playthrough, you can start a New Game+ and complete the quest for the portrait and achievement. However, this means that you need to go through a good chunk of the game first. Should you want to get as many achievements as possible in one run, make sure to finish the Purple Talismans quest before killing the Chapter 4 boss.
Black Myth Wukong Crane Immortal – Step 1: Find the Four Purple Talismans
Three of the Talismans are in the Webbed Hollow. The last is in the Temple of Yellow Flowers.
The First Talisman
- Travel to the Middle Hollow shrine.
- Turn your back to the shrine and walk straight.
- When you reach the green rocks, make a right and go up the stairs.
- Continue straight and pass the white stones.
- Take the left path.
- Spot the bridge to the building to confirm you are on the right track.
- Cross the bridge.
- On the left side, you will see the altar near some tree roots.
- Trigger the cutscene and wait for it to end in order to retrieve the Talisman.
The Second Talisman
- Travel to the Cliff of Oblivion shrine.
- With your face towards the shrine, look right.
- Spot the altar in the water.
The Third Talisman
- Travel to the Relief of the Fallen Loong shrine.
- Go behind the shrine and take the rocky path upward.
- Spot a lit torch in the distance.
- Go through the area with the webs.
- Continue up on the path and make a right.
- Reach the top and spot the roots encircling the rocks.
- Make a left and find the altar behind the rocks.
How to Find The Fourth Talisman
Do not attempt to retrieve the fourth Talisman before obtaining the previous three. The altar is behind an invisible wall. To deactivate the wall, Sun Wukong must collect all the other three Talismans. Once you have them all, follow these directions to the last one.
- Travel to the Court of Illumination shrine.
- Go behind the shrine and walk the road leading to the stairs.
- You will arrive at a courtyard.
- Spot the altar and get the fourth and last Talisman.
Black Myth Wukong Crane Immortal – Step 2: The Supreme Inspector Encounter
The Supreme Inspector makes an appearance after you have all four Talismans. The encounter takes place in the Temple of Yellow Flowers, where you found the last altar.
Start the fight against the Supreme Inspector. You don’t need to kill him. Considering he has a lot of HP, that’s good news. Damage the boss to about 80-85% HP to trigger a cutscene. The Crane Immortal will then appear and end the fight. Talk to the Crane Immortal to unlock his Journal portrait.
After the encounter ends, loot the chest to find a Celestial Nonary Pill. You will also unlock the Misfit with Merit achievement.
