Start from the tally door. This is the Valley of Despair checkpoint.
Follow the path leading into the cave.
Watch the cutscene with the King of Flowing Sands and another boss. You don’t need to kill this boss.
Simply pass the boss and head to the left.
Pass through the opening in the rocks.
Follow the path and you will encounter the Tiger Vanguard.

The Tiger Vanguard is a challenging boss. He doesn’t use ranged attacks, so he will attempt to get close to you. In addition to the Keeness of Tiger key, he also drops the Rock Solid spell, making him a worthy target.

Exit the tunnel and you will find the Stone Vanguard.

How to Defeat the Stone Vanguard

The good news is that the Stone Vanguard is not as challenging as the Tiger Vanguard. The bad news is that, if you killed all the enemies in the tunnel, you might be low on HP. Seeing that there’s no checkpoint here, you might find yourself rinsing and repeating a few times.

The Stone Vanguard has a lot of HP, making this encounter a survival fight. He uses area-of-effect attacks. He also calls minions that deal exploding damage. Pay attention to the cues that precede the earthquake attack and avoid it with precise jumping moves. Other than the Sterness of Stone, he drops no notable loot.
