How to Defeat the Lampmaster in Clair Obscur

There are two phases for the Lampmaster. Just when you think you’ve defeated it, it comes back!

Stage One

During phase one it uses the following moves:

  • Jump attack where it jumps and tries to slam on you.
  • The Power of Lamps Attack sees it building up purple energy. Then it fires at your characters.
  • Aim Disrupting attacks sees the Lampmaster performing a three hit combo with it’s sword. Try to avoid otherwise your character will get a dizzy status.
  • Shoot With It’s Lights sees the boss using it’s lanterns to shoot projectiles as you.

A good thing to keep in mind is that you can absolutely shoot at the four floating lamps during this phase. By doing this you can disable it’s light shot attack! The Lampmaster doesn’t have a huge weakness with the exception of a resistance to light so trial and error with your moves is going to be likely.

Stage Two

In stage two you’ll have to face a bunch of new attacks.

  • The vast ball of light will cause the Lampmaster to shoot a literal ball of light at the party.
  • Sword of Light causes it to swing it’s giant sword towards you. It does cause a decent amount of damage.
  • Flying Combo sees the Lampmaster unleasing a combo attack (4 or 5 hits) at the party. It might seem like the creature is done when it flies away but then it comes back!
  • Finally, the Each Arm Attack has the Lampmaster sending a four hit combo at your party.

Something strange starts to happen during Phase 2. The lamps are going to glow red in a sequence. What you can do is memorize the seuqnece, aiming at each lamp in the order they glowed. By doing this the Lampmaster will take damage and not be able to use the Sword of Light next turn!

Once it’s finish you’ll get XP and a Shape of Life, and a At Death’s Door Pictos.
