While the impending doom present in most chapters is absent from this one, making it one of the easier ones, you still have pivotal decisions to make. Chapter 3 – Colonize Winterhome In Frostpunk 2
You have two main goals for this chapter: Find the Winterhome Ruins and prepare Winterhome for colonization. Considering that you just survived a whiteout, most of your supplies are probably going to be too low to colonize Winterhome. Focus first on replenishing your resources and workforce. You can store your surplus of supplies in Hubs. There’s a lot of recovering to be done, which takes up a good portion of this chapter.
Winterhome is located to the northeast of New London, in the Cursed Valley past the Gorge. Build or expand upon the three Logistics Districts to ensure the safety of your scouts before sending them off. To get supplies and colonists to this area, you have to make a path from New London to Winterhome.
Players can decide who they’re going to send to settle Winterhome: choose equally from the population or the radical leader.
Salvage or Settle Winterhome – Chapter 3
Towards the end of Chapter 3, you are presented with a choice that will greatly affect the rest of the game. One faction wants you to salvage Winterhome, extracting its Steam Cores and destroying the ruins, while the other wants you to settle Winterhome.
If you choose to salvage Winterhome, you must Frostbreak the area and get the Steam Cores in order to build the Generator upgrade. You won’t be able to return to this area for the rest of the game.
If you settle Winterhome, you can turn it into a permanent settlement which you can continue to evolve for the rest of the game. This requires resources and takes longer.
