Frostpunk 2 Outposts – How To Harvest The Frostland (Outposts)

Frostpunk 2

Frostpunk 2 Outposts are colonies outside New London. They are an essential part of the resource harvesting process. As the city grows, the resources won’t be enough. You will expand beyond the city walls and take advantage of the Frostland.

Frostpunk 2 Outposts – Exploring the Frostland

Before you can set Outposts, you need to discover what’s out there. And by that, we mean that you must head out into the Frostland. The icy region outside the city is full of resources. You will unlock Frostland expeditions while playing in Story Mode. This happens early in the game when you have access to the Logistics District.

Frostpunk 2 Outposts Logistics

The Logistics District produces a resource called Frostland Teams. These workers will venture out into the frosted lands. When you send an expedition, they will come back with a report including what resources you can harvest from an area and where you can build an Outpost.

How to Build Frostpunk 2 Outposts

Once your Frostland Teams have discovered an area, you can check out the report. Open the Frostland map and click the area marker. If this is a suitable place for an Outpost, you will see the option to construct it. The next step is to set up a Trail or Skyway. These paths link the Outpost to the city. You cannot gather resources without establishing such a route first.

Frostpunk 2 Outposts Build

If you already have a Trail that can connect to the Outpost, you don’t need to build a new one. You should also look into Skyways as they can efficiently link more Outposts.

Outposts run on resources, so you need to afford the upkeep cost. It is important to upgrade the city Districts when you build a new Outpost. Keep in mind that you can also Deactivate an Outpost if you need to save resources.

Outpost Upgrades

Outposts are upgraded into Settlements. To unlock this expansion, you need the Settlement Heating and Skyway research. Once you have access to these researches, you can expand the Outposts into Settlements.

Frostpunk 2 Settlement

The upgrade requirements depend on the Outpost. First of all, you need a Skyway between the Settlement and the city.

The resources needed for the upgrade are:

  • Workforce.
  • Cores.
  • Prefabs.

Settlements cost more than Outpost to function but also produce more resources. Settlements also support expansions. Expanded Settlements are more efficient, but cost more than normal Settlements. The upgrade is worth it in the long run, but if at the moment you are low on resources, you should postpone the expansion.

The Importance of Frostpunk 2 Outposts

The Whiteout is one of the challenges that you will have to overcome once in a while. During this time, the Districts stop producing resources. You will need to stockpile Food and generate enough Heat to keep the people alive.

Colonies are indispensable during the Whiteout. If they are far enough, the Whiteout might not even affect them. This means that they can provide the resources New London needs to survive the cold. If Adaptation is among the city’s development values, Settlements are paramount during the Whiteout.
