Frostpunk 2 Frostland Exploration is a gameplay mechanic that allows you to gather resources outside the city. As the population grows, the resource demand increases, making Frostland Exploration key to the city’s development.
Frostpunk 2 Frostland Exploration – Frostland Teams
Frostland Exploration consumes Frostland Teams, a resource that allows you to venture beyond the city walls. These teams are the workers outside of the city. Frostland Teams come from the Logistics District. This sector is built on the compass icon.

Each District will initially hold 15 teams. You can increase this number by upgrading the District. Check out the Ideas Tree to see the upgrade options. The number of available teams is on the right side of the screen in the upper corner. The marker resembles a compass.
Frostpunk 2 Frostland Exploration Mechanics
Use the mountain marker to open the Frostland map. Alternatively, you can zoom out to see the area outside the city.

Click on a region to see the exploration details:
- Number of necessary Frostland Teams.
- Expedition threat level.
- Extracted resources.
- Expedition time.
The expedition requirements and details depend on the following:
- The type of the terrain.
- Distance from the city.
- Size of the explored region.
You will be able to explore more regions as you uncover more areas outside the city. Once you send the Frostland Teams on an expedition, they will leave the city. You can call them back at any time, but you will lose progress. The diamond marker on the Frostland map appears once an expedition is over. Click the icon to see the results of the endeavor. Make sure you have enough storage space for the newly extracted resources.
Frostland Exploration Threat Level
You will notice that some expeditions are marked as Dangerous. This means that a part of the Frostland Teams might be injured or killed. It is also possible to lose all the teams in an expedition. Everything in Frostpunk 2 has consequences. The Trust of your people will take a hit if this happens. The good news is that you can decrease the chances of this negative outcome. The Logistics District has buildings that can reduce the danger of an expedition.
Frostland Exploration Trails
Besides exploring the Frostland, Teams are also in charge of maintaining the facilities that harvest and send the resources to the city. In order to do this, you must build a trail. The game will notify you when an outpost needs a trail.

It takes Heatstamps and Frefabs to build trails. To save resources, you shouldn’t build unnecessary trails. Another recommendation is to make trails as straight as possible. Trails originate from the city or an outpost. You can also build them from existing trails. The spikes on the map mark the endpoints of a trail.
The costs depend on the terrain the trail needs to cross. Building on rough terrain is more expensive. Consider your options before committing to the build. It might be cheaper to build a longer trail on clear ground than to create a straight one through hills, forests, or other rough areas.
