How to Open the Gothic Remake Mountain Fortress Chest and Collect the Royal Guard Armor

You will visit the Mountain Fortress during the Focus Stones quest line. The locked chest is in an optional area. You will most likely come across it while exploring the fortress in search of the Focus Stone. The key that opens the chest is in an area you can reach only with the climbing skill.

How to Find the Key

After solving the bookshelf puzzle and dropping down in the room below the attic, turn around to spot the door that leads to the chest. You cannot open the chest with lockpicking, so you must search for the key if you want to obtain the Royal Guard Armor. Leave the area with the chest, exit on the small balcony on the other side, and go up the stairs.

Go to the edge of the broken wall to activate the Climb Wall skill. Go around the wall to the left and climb up to reach the opening in the wall.

Turn right, go up the stairs, exit on the balcony, and follow the stairs to reach the top of the fortress, where you will find the chest containing the Gothic Remake Mountain Fortress chest key. Lockpick the chest to open it and collect the key.

Here is the lockpicking combination:

• Plate 1 – 2 positions to the left.
• Plate 2 – 2 positions to the right.
• Plate 3 – 2 positions to the left.
• Plate 4 – 4 positions to the right.
• Plate 6 – 3 positions to the left.
• Plate 5 – 4 positions to the left.
• Plate 4 – 3 positions to the right.
• Plate 6 – 5 positions to the left.
• Plate 2 – 5 positions to the right.
• Plate 6 – 5 positions to the left.
• Plate 3 – 2 positions to the left.

Retrace your steps to the Mountain Fortress Chest room and open it using the key to find the Gothic Remake Royal Guard Armor.
