Aberax is the Metroid Prime 4 Beyond boss you will encounter at the end of the Galactic Federation UTC Research Center level. The prologue takes place on Tanamaar, a planet swarming with Space Pirates.
Let’s see what you must do to take down their boss!
How to Defeat Aberax in Metroid Prime 4 Beyond
The prologue is quite short, so you don’t have to wait for too long to meet this first boss. As you progress through the Galactic Federation UTC Research Center level, make sure to scan the Space Pirate and the Galactic Federation Trooper. A cutscene will play at the start of the fight against Aberax. Before you do anything else, scan the boss. All three scans are missable, so be sure to get them before the end of the level.
Galactic Federation UTC Research Center Boss Fight and Strategy
The key to defeating Aberax in Metroid Prime 4 Beyond is targeting his weak points. You will see them popping out of his body during the cutscene.
The fight has three phases:
- In Phase 1, the boss has two weak points (nodes).
- In Phase 2, the boss has three nodes.
- In Phase 3, the boss has four nodes.
Notice when the nodes change color. Shoot at the nodes only when they are green. Yellow means that the weak points are protected.
Destroying all two/three/four nodes makes Aberax expose the node in his midsection.

Damaging this weak point inflicts massive damage on the boss. After a short while, the middle node becomes hidden and the boss regrows his other nodes. The strategy, however, remains the same. During the fight, the boss uses several moves you need to pay attention to.
Aberax uses shields to protect his weak points. Focus fire on an unprotected node when the shields are up.

Avoid the green orbs or destroy them for rockets and HP consumables. Which you will likely need so keep an eye out for those. Another attack to watch out for involves the boss emanating an AOE wave. When that happens make sure to jump over or activate the morph ball to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
Also be on the look out for the boss’ fire beam attack his exposed core. Move left or right to avoid that

In Phases 2 and 3, the boss sends out a wall AOE attack. You can avoid it with a double jump.
