Octopath Traveler 0 Recipe Books are town upgrades you can unlock by talking to various NPCs. These books expand the list of dishes you can create.
Use the Inquire path action to obtain recipe books. There’s only one book that requires the Contend action. Once you have a recipe book, several dishes will become available.

There is a total of 13 recipe books that players can find and unlock in Octopath Traveler 0. Some of these include Atlasdam Recipe Book, Berecain Recipe Book, Clearbrook Recipe Book, Cragspear Recipe Book and many are inside various buildings

How to Unlock the River Bean Patty and Berry Pie Recipes
While most of the recipes come from Octopath Traveler 0 Recipe Books, two of them are unlocked in a different way.
River Bean Patty Recipe
Open the Party Chat in the Journal section. Select New Companions in the Bonds of Fellowship section and look for the chat with El the Swordsman. This chat is part of the Master of All Chapter 3 main quest. Select the chat to unlock the River Bean Patty recipe. You will need this dish to invite the Pleasant Goldsmith to join Wishvale as a resident and to complete the Inquire action with Carinda.
Berry Pie Recipe
The Berry Pie recipe is a reward from a successful Inquire action with the Friendly Server in the Cragspear tavern. Don’t forget to Entreat him for other items and Invite him to join Wishvale.
