Dularn, the Creeping Shadow is the first Ys the Oath in Felghana boss. You come across Dularn while exploring Tigray Quarry, the first game area. Soon after entering the Quarry, Adol must procure the Ignis Bracelet. Dularn stands between you and the artifact, so there’s no other way but to fight him.
How to Defeat Dularn in the Tigray Quarry
The Dularn encounter serves as your first serious combat trial. The boss is not extremely challenging, however, he is much harder to defeat than the enemies you’ve fought so far. However, if you pay attention to his attacks and prepare a bit you will have him down without much effort.
How to Prepare for the Fight Against Dularn
It is recommended to have at least level 6. Luckily, the Tigray Quarry is a good place to farm XP, so you should attain that level by the time you run into Dularn. To make the fight easier, consider going a few levels above the recommended level. With the large number of monsters in this place, leveling is not an issue.
The boss has about 190 HP. The most important thing throughout this fight is to pay attention to the boss’ moves. Dularn’s Barrier makes him immune to physical attacks, meaning you cannot harm the boss while the Barrier is up. You must wait for the Barrier to go down to damage the boss.
Dularn’s Attack Moves
The enemy will attack you with three, four, or five swords. These are the attacks you need to avoid. The telegraphs for these moves are three, four, or five golden swords near the boss. So, whenever you see the swords, be ready to dodge.
Three-Sword Attack
The boss raises three swords in the air and shoots them at you. Move away from the boss and go left or right to avoid this attack.
Four-Sword Attack
Dularn shields himself with four swords. This attack is harder to avoid because the swords travel to your location. Move away from the boss as soon as the swords spawn. Wait for them to get close and jump over them as they follow you.
Five-Sword Attack
The boss creates a wall of five swords in front of himself. Get close to the boss when you see the telegraph for this move and jump over one sword. The alternative is to run as far away as possible from the boss. Try both strategies and use the one you are most comfortable with. The swords always go in a straight line.
Flame Wall
This move is used when the boss is low on HP. Six fireballs will travel towards you, dealing considerable damage if they hit you. Run towards the boss when you see the fire and jump over the fireballs while they are still close to each other.
Fight Strategy
As the fight begins, the Barrier will be up. You cannot damage the boss, so concentrate on avoiding the sword attacks. The boss will perform three random sword attacks before his Barrier goes down. When the Barrier is inactive, hit him with your sword.
When the boss has low HP, he will do a Flame Wall after three sword attacks. You can tell if the boss is about to do a Flame Wall if he teleports away after performing three sword attacks. Avoid the Flame Wall before damaging the boss.
