Dularn, the Tragic Loyalist is a powerful Ys the Oath in Felghana boss that you face towards the end of the game. You’ve met Dularn before in the Tigray Quarry. However, this second encounter is much more challenging. Let’s see what you must do to defeat Dularn once and for all!
How to Defeat Dularn on Genos Island
The final fight against Dularn takes place on Genos Island. You must defeat him to continue the journey. This is the last part of the game, so expect a testing encounter. This second fight retains the mechanics of the first one but with increased difficulty.
How to Prepare for the Fight Against Dularn, the Tragic Loyalist
The recommended level for this fight is 42. The Clock Tower dungeon is an excellent place to farm XP if you are below the recommended level. Keep in mind that Dularn has 4000 HP, meaning you need to survive for quite a bit and do considerable damage to take him down.
Increase your max HP with Katol Elixirs and check your gear before heading into battle. Your Battle Shield and Battle Armor should be fully upgraded. Although not mandatory, consider upgrading the Brave Sword as well for an easier fight. You can obtain the sword from Edgar’s house in Redmont Town.
Dularn, the Tragic Loyalist Sword Attacks
Dularn still employs his multi-sword attacks, and to make the fight even more annoying, he is also using clones and lasers. The Barrier is up, meaning you must wait for it to deactivate in order to land a hit.
Six-Sword Attack
Dularn conjures three sets of golden swords and shoots them at you. Avoid them by running left or right. Double Jump also works. The swords have homing properties.
Eight-Sword Attack
Dularn surrounds himself with four sets of two swords each. We have one set on the left, one on the right, one in the front, and another in the back. You should have mastered the Double Jump by now because you will need to hop around to dodge this attack.
Ten-Sword Attack
This time, we have to deal with two sets of five swords each. They travel at a high speed in a linear path. You can wait for the swords to spread out and use the gaps as a safe space. The alternative is to Double Jump over them.
Fire Wall
The move is the same as in the first Dularn encounter. The boss shoots six fireballs at you. Use Double Jump to avoid them.
Dularn, the Tragic Loyalist Clone Attacks
One Clone
The boss uses clones when his Barrier is deactivated. The clone looks like a purple shadow of the boss. Watch out for the clone’s frontal half-moon attack.
Two Clones
This time you have to deal with two clones performing the half-moon attack spreading over a large area.
Three Clones
Dularn has three clones dealing half-moon attacks. Stay in the middle and wait for the attacks to get close to you. Then, do a Double Jump to avoid them.
Five Clones
Position yourself in the middle of the room and when the boss reappears go left or right. Perform a Double Jump in the direction of the boss.
Lasers
Two lasers appear when the boss is low on HP. They are easy to spot, but you also have clones and sword attacks to deal with during this phase.
Fight Strategy
Wait for the boss to do three random sword attacks and his Barrier will go down. This is when he receives damage, so put that sword to good use. You can damage the boss when the clones are up, but avoiding their attacks takes priority over hitting the boss. When the fight enters the last phase, you also have lasers to watch out for. This is the most challenging part, but the good news is that the fight is almost over. Keep your cool and remember that avoiding damage is more important than attacking the boss.
