This Dragon Age the Veilguard (DATV) Corius guide shows you how to slay the ice dragon. Rook faces this dragon if they choose to save Treviso with Lucanis. Should they prefer the alternative and go to Minrathous with Neve, they will fight against Seartooth Vyrantus. No matter the choice, this first dragon encounter will most likely catch you unprepared.
Dragon Age The Veilguard Corius – Encounter Guide
As the fight begins, you will land a few hits and realize they are nothing more than scratches. Even when hitting Corius with Fire attacks, the damage is not that great. On the other hand, the dragon’s attacks considerably harm Rook.
The good news is that you don’t need to kill the dragon to finish the quest. After you decrease its HP bar by a third, a cutscene plays and Corius retreats. With that in mind, let’s see what you need to do to bring Corius to about 70% HP.
Battle Strategy
You will soon realize that direct damage will not win you this fight. There’s a trick to bringing Corius down. The fight mechanics are based on hitting the dragon at the right time to expose its weaknesses. Corius has two weak spots.
Throughout the fight, keep an eye on the dragon’s legs. You can deal considerably more damage when they are glowing purple. Pay attention to this cue. Concentrate your attacks on the legs when they are glowing. Attack the dragon’s legs to weaken it.

When the legs have taken enough damage, Corius will fall on one side and reveal another weak point. The dragon’s underbelly will glow purple. Now is the time to dish out as much damage as you can. Use charged heavy attacks and your most powerful abilities.

Repeat this strategy until you damage it to about 70% HP. Corius will fly away, but that’s not the last of the mighty ice dragon. You will fight Corius later again in the story.
Recommendations
As the name suggests, Corius the Icetalon is an ice dragon. This means that Fire damage hurts it the most. Lucanis will be the designated party member for this fight. The recommendation is to take Davrin for his Fire-based skills.

The second recommendation is not to get close to the dragon. Stay at a safe distance and dodge the dragon’s attacks. Corius lashes out at Rook and shoots an ice barrage. Get out of harm’s way, as your level is not that high in the beginning and you cannot resist more than a few hits. Leave Lucanis and Davris to do the heavy work. Rook can assist with ranged attacks and Fire-based abilities if they have any.
