How to Unlock the Berhardt Encounter

The fight itself is challenging, but unlocking the fight is also difficult. In order to clash swords with the Legend Himself, you need to complete the Boss Rush challenge on Nightmare difficulty in Time Attack mode. As soon as you take down the last boss, the fight against Berhardt begins.

There are no difficulty levels for this encounter. There’s also no way of starting the fight without doing Boss Rush first.

How to Defeat Berhardt and Obtain the Trophy

The fight takes place outside Berhardt’s house in the Elderm Mountains. Even though it seems to be a large area, you don’t have that much space to move around. The battle arena is a rectangle with invisible walls. You will notice that you cannot move past its boundaries, even if there’s no visual element denoting a barrier.

Fight Strategy

The recommended approach for this fight is to use Earth Magic for attack and defense. Kite Berhardt along the upper or lower boundary. He will follow Adol from one corner to another. When the boss stops and prepares an attack, that’s your cue to damage him. He is the most vulnerable while attacking. This is an opportune moment to hit him with an Earth Magic attack. You don’t have a lot of time to do that, so it will take a couple of tries until you manage to land a hit.

The Corner Trick

Run into any corner and start spamming the jump button. Don’t use Double Jump, as this strategy will only work with normal jumps. The boss will not attack while you are continuously jumping in a corner. The moment you stop jumping, the boss will come at you. This is another good opportunity to do some damage. Use your most devastating attacks to carve a good chunk of his HP. The boss has 9999 HP, so it will take a couple of hits until you get him down. This is an aggressive fight, but defense is just as important, especially when the boss goes into berserk mode.

Berserk Mode

Berserk mode or boost mode is when Berhardt goes crazy and comes at Adol with everything he’s got. The Legend Himself lives up to his name and you get to witness his fighting skills. When the boss enters this state, his attacks are faster and more damaging. He is also more vulnerable, but he will not shy away from counterattacking. If you want to play it safe during this phase, you should use the corner trick. You can also use boost to strengthen your defense. If you feel confident, you can attack him, but remember that if you die, you need to do another Boss Rush to tackle the fight once again.
